teriyakidiverzToday was the second day of the OWD course, following yesterday’s training. At our shop, we conduct boat dives in the Kerama Islands whenever weather conditions allow. Students review and practice the fundamental skills they learned on the first day, this time in a real open-water environment.
At a sandy dive site near Zamami Island, we mastered compass navigation before enjoying the underwater world around us. We encountered garden eels, schools of glass cardinalfish, many species of tiny shrimp, and even a frogfish.
After completing two dives and earning their certification, we headed to a coral reef site near Tokashiki Island. As learned during the OWD course, the beautiful bright-red corals underwater can appear darker to the naked eye. But by shining dive lights on them, we were able to reveal their true vibrant colors.
It is currently the breeding season for cuttlefish, so we were lucky enough to see some impressive individuals nearly one meter in size. Riding a gentle current, we also enjoyed an easy and beginner-friendly drift dive.
Our shop has English-speaking instructors available, so international guests can join our courses with confidence. Courses are often fully booked, so we recommend making reservations early.
