Experience the awe of Tonaki Blue.

Today, we’ll introduce some popular dive sites around Tonaki Island, a favorite destination for day trips from Naha.

What’s so special about Tonaki Island?

✔️ A remote island of breathtaking nature
Since there are no local dive services on the island and expeditions from Naha are limited to specific times of the year, Tonaki Island remains a pristine natural environment with exceptional water clarity. The coral reefs surrounding the island are home to a wide variety of marine life, making it a true paradise for divers.

✔️ Accessible as a day trip from Naha
Situated about 60 kilometers northwest of Naha, Tonaki Island is just a 90-minute ride by dive boat. While access is seasonal, there's no need to stay overnight or take a ferry—its great location near Naha Port makes it perfect for a day trip.

✔️A chance of encountering big fish and large schools.
Due to the presence of a nearby U.S. military training area, the dive site 'Nakarma' is only accessible on Sundays when no exercises are held. Here, divers have the chance to encounter schools of dogtooth tuna, large gatherings of fusiliers, grey reef sharks, and even zebra sharks. Another popular site, 'Guruku-no-Saki' , also offers opportunities to see dogtooth tuna, Napoleon wrasse, and large schools of pyramid butterflyfish.

At Guruku-no-Saki, the dense colony of star polyps resembles a field of underwater grass.
Colorful fish such as amethyst anthias, peach fairy basslet, and sea goldie inhabit the area.
In areas with strong currents, you may encounter schools of dogtooth tuna.
At the 'Blue Hole,' you’re sure to be amazed by the dramatic underwater terrain.

Tonaki Island remains largely untouched by mass tourism, preserving its natural beauty and earning it the reputation as a true "hidden gem of Okinawa." Each year, many divers visit the island seeking its crystal-clear waters and rich marine ecosystem. We invite you to experience, at least once, the overwhelming beauty of the tranquil sea that stretches out before you.
